Neither From Nor Towards

Cornelia Parker – “Neither From Nor Towards” 1992

house perspective

“Neither From Nor Towards”, a piece by Cornelia Parker is a sculpture made up of bricks suspended on wire. They are the remains of a house, that due to erosion had collapsed from a cliff in Dover.

The bricks, orange and sea worn, give the illusion of defying gravity; emulating the gentle ocean waves that rounded them. The piece is hung in a gradient with the largest bricks at one end and the smallest fragments at the other. The sculpture offers something different from each angle; at one point resembling the waves of the sea and at the next, coming together to form the house it once was.

It’s a shame that I couldn’t find such beautifully rounded bricks when I went looking for them.
