Self Portraits

I want my outcome to become more personal. It seems odd to me to present a sculpture of another person’s head as my final outcome. It also seems that people are getting busier and busier as the deadline comes closer and I won’t be able to have anyone sit and pose for me. For these reasons I’ve decided to move onto self-portraiture.

I began with a series of drawings done in front of a mirror. I used many of the same drawing techniques and styles that I had been using previously.

The whole experience was quite strange and comparable to some sort of therapy. Like most people, I’ve had issues with my appearance since I was young and I’ve noticed that I’m a lot more biased when it comes to drawing myself, willing to ignore certain features or emphasis them based on my own distorted view.
