Woodlouse Light TestsPosted: January 24, 2016
For my new light design I looked towards biomimettics, specifically the woodlouse. I wanted to attempt to make a light that could direct or spread light through curling up.
Bellow are a few paper maquettes, experimenting with number of joins and scale of shrinkage in each segment. I’m finding it difficult to produce a full circular shape as I can’t find any help with the scaling.
After doing all of this and further researching I came across the designs below. Which are essentially well executed, existing variations of this idea. I simply don’t see the point in progressing any further with this design. I want my design to be unique and innovative and making something that already exists and functions well seems redundant. It’s not the same as when you find an artist that has similar work to you, they exist in completely different contexts, a design is made to execute a role.
