Greek VasesPosted: May 18, 2016
Following my research on Grayson Perry I learnt of how he uses historic pot silhouettes as his inspiration. Known for their homoerotic imagery and use of ceramics I decided to research Greek vases. These again are an example of Illustration and Ceramics coming together. The traditional technique of decorating these vases is using Terra sigillata, a process somewhat in between slips and glazes, which would be interesting to explore if possible.
The action of taking a sexual, or even taboo image and placing it on an everyday object is a very interesting concept. It almost seeks to normalise and oversaturate the subject depicted. There is still a stigma behind LGBT so perhaps this is a direction to take further?
