Slip Inlaying

Inspired by the Native American mimbres bowls that I found in my “Sex Pots” book, I came up with a more modern rendition that I could use to experiment with inlaying slip. I had a lot of trouble when scraping away the slip and found that it just smeared the whole image no matter if it was leather hard or wet, but once it was bone dry I attempted to salvage this piece and scrape it again and found that my lines were starting to come through. Although because I tried scraping and layering slip twice, which meant I had to carve into the tile twice I did end up with double lines in some places.

I’m not sure that this technique is reliable enough for me to want to use it again.
